Property Council’s inaugural South Island regional awards winners have been announced in a spectacular sold-out event in Christchurch.

Property Council Meridian Energy Southern Excellence Awards recognised seven category winners at the Air Force Museum tonight.

South Island Branch president Jo McDonald says Property Council is delighted to celebrate the people in the industry.

“The South Island branch takes great pleasure in congratulating all of our award winners who’ve contributed so much in the way of time, expertise and experience to our industry.

“It is through the and passion and commitment of these individuals and teams that we continue our progress towards full recovery since the earthquakes.

“We are delighted and proud of the response we’ve received for inaugural event, and are already looking forward to planning the next one. The crowd here tonight is a reflection of the passion and confidence in our sector.”

A posthumous Prendos Property Industry Associate of the Year award went to Bob Robertson from Infinity Investment Group, who passed away unexpectedly last year. Mr Robertson’s death leaves a lasting and influential contribution to the property development industry.

Bob Robertson and his wife founded the Infinity Investment Group in 1999 and built a highly successful company within 15 years. Mr Robertson’s emphasis on building communities whilst creating attractive, profitable and sustainable developments will ensure he is remembered as one of the Southern men who made a real difference.

Veteran property developer Antony Gough received the Kirk Roberts Consulting Engineers Award for Service for his longstanding commitment to the sector and the region’s wider economy. Mr Gough is the managing director of Hereford Holdings Ltd, and is best known for creating Christchurch’s famous “The Strip”.

Since the Canterbury earthquakes, he has been a vocal and enthusiastic supporter of Christchurch’s rebuild and is the Central City Business Association chairman and has been instrumental in establishing the Re:Start container mall in Cashel Street.

Antony Gough began a $140 million re-development project centred on his former Oxford Terrace precinct in 2013. As a major CBD rebuild project, it is to transform the iconic site into a dynamic hub of retailers, hospitality providers, office space, and car-parking by 2017.
