Putting government’s investment in UFB to work

Media release - 9 December

Putting government’s investment in UFB to work

Government’s announcement today that 200,000 businesses can get hooked up to Ultra-Fast Broadband (UFB) is an indication of the huge potential for the New Zealand economy, according to Innovation Partnership Programme Director Joe Stockman.

“Getting UFB and RBI to New Zealand businesses is essential for a successful digital economy, but it is only a first step. Now we need businesses to get connected, and to start thinking about how they can use that connectivity to run more productive, efficient, and ultimately more profitable businesses,” said Stockman.

“Research by the Innovation Partnership into the value of the Internet for New Zealand businesses showed that putting internet-based technology to work made business six per cent more productive than the average in their industry.

“Importantly, these businesses were a massive 74 per cent more productive than businesses that weren’t making effective use of the Internet.”

Business that want to start getting up with the digital play can use the Digital Office’s Digital Journey tool to complete a quick online assessment to get an idea of their digital maturity, and a five-point action plan for what they should do next to make better use of the Internet.
