AFFCO Talley workforce angered as first pay falls short
The first pay-day under the Court ordered return to work on previous union terms and conditions has left workers at the AFFCO Talley plants furious at the mistakes, pay cuts and omissions, says the NZ Meat Workers Union.
“It’s been a hard road for our members in the last two weeks," says Graham Cooke, NZMWU National Secretary.
“Our members have deliberately been discriminated against in work allocations, there’s been muck-ups with start and finish times and overtime preferences dished out to those not on the union agreement.
“The blocking of Helen Kelly, former CTU President by the company at mediation last week, where we were supposed to be resolving some of these issues was deeply insulting to MWU members, who hold her in high regard.
“Some workers, like those at Wairoa, are yet to return to work at all, as the Company insists they return on nightshift, regardless of previous shift arrangements before the lockout.
“It feels to our members like the company is deliberately flouting the Judges’ ruling and is determined to make life difficult.
“Union members are standing their ground, but it’s not fair that this company can continue to break the law and treat good, hard working people like this,” says Mr Cooke.
