Mitre 10 calls for DIY experts to be locked into a Mitre 10 MEGA store in ‘DIY till dawn’ experience

Mitre 10 is calling for the country’s top talent in DIY to show off their skills in The Lock In, a ‘DIY till dawn’ experience where teams around New Zealand will complete a project while locked inside a Mitre 10 MEGA store for the night.

And as the country’s biggest home improvement and building supply company Mitre 10 is bringing TV presenter and celebrity architect George Clarke to New Zealand to coach teams as they construct their projects throughout the night.

Entries are now open for the best DIY teams in Auckland, Hamilton and Dunedin and four teams from each city will be chosen to go head-to-head in the contest.

George Clarke said he is looking forward to getting the keys to the Mitre 10 MEGA stores.

“I love Kiwi ingenuity and innovation, I love that number eight wire spirit,” George Clarke said. “So I’m pleased I’ll get to see those New Zealand qualities in action.

“I have to warn you, The Lock In isn’t for the faint-hearted – it’s going to be an all-nighter, and the competition will be stiff. There’ll be mountains of sawdust. There’ll be power tools. There’ll be no time for napping.”

Mitre 10 General Manager Marketing Dave Elliott said the competition would be testament to the fact that DIY is in our DNA.

“We’re giving our teams unlimited access to the store shelves, plus Mitre 10 builder Stan Scott will be on hand to give advice and guidance, and we promise there’ll be plenty of coffee. But ultimately, we’ll be relying on the DIY expertise of our competing teams to get the job done on the night.

“It’s going to be tough, but we have great faith that our DIY experts will come through, completing the project before the sun comes up.”
