ART Venture’s Golden Opportunity

ART Venture’s Golden Opportunity

Innovative creative sector business development programme is open for Expressions of Interest

The call is out for entrepreneurial people working in Auckland’s creative sector to put forward their Expression of Interest for ART Venture, a unique creative business acceleration programme now in its seventh year. The programme is an initiative of Arts Regional Trust Te Taumata Toi-a-iwi (ART) with delivery partner, The Big Idea | Te Aria Nui.

ART Venture is for entrepreneurial practitioners, producers and leaders who are serious about accelerating their skills, projects, organisations and businesses, while also contributing significantly to Auckland through their creative talent, public-good focus and business innovation.

This year in August, up to 14 creative people will be awarded a place on the programme at a gala event hosted by Arts Regional Trust.

“ART Venture is a golden opportunity for creatives from across the spectrum of Auckland's arts, culture and creative sectors to take part in a unique and customised development programme”, says Candy Elsmore from Arts Regional Trust.

“We’re seeking expressions of interest from creative entrepreneurs who are experienced and wanting to take what they do to the next level of success, as well as those in the early stages of enterprise development who are keen to get off to a good, strong start. We want to back people with a passion for what they do and who have great projects that they want to further, for both the benefit of themselves and the wider community”, she says.

ART Venture is a ‘wrap around’ programme that is customised for and responsive to the needs of individual participants.. “We provide a flexible action-learning environment that through peer-to-peer support, specialist coaching, a seed fund pitching process and an innovative curriculum accelerates each participant’s creative enterprise,” ART Venture Programme Director Elisabeth Vaneveld explains.

“Over the past seven years, we have been hugely impressed by the progress ART Venture alumni have made since leaving the programme. As high achievers and using new found capabilities and confidence, many previous participants have substantially advanced their goals during challenging times for the arts, culture and creative sectors, and national and global economies”, she says. “We undertook research in 2014/15 to explore the effectiveness and long-term results of the programme – and we were heartened that the approach and curriculum that ART Venture offers really does make a difference not only while people are on the programme but for a long-time afterwards.”

A summary of research findings drawn from “ART Venture: What Difference Does it Make?” is here. Echoing a large majority of respondents who said that ART Venture made a critical / important contribution to their professional development as creative entrepreneurs and to the viability of their business enterprise, Live Live Cinema producer Phil Evans of Jumpboard Productions said, “ART Venture was very helpful to me coming at a start up period in an extremely risky and volatile business. It helped me better communicate my business, the opportunities my business could offer the entertainment sector, and importantly gave me the financial and business skills to access investment for major works and tours”.

ART Venture is a golden opportunity. Expressions of Interest for participating in the 2016 programme are open now and close on Wednesday 24 February 2016, 5pm
