Self Defence Taster Courses for Auckland Women

Self Defence Taster Courses for Auckland Women

The women’s self defence network wants to help Auckland women feel safer in their homes and on the street.

“We are hoping to reduce the level of unease and fear that some women are feeling after the two separate murders in Auckland last month. We hope women do not limit their lives because of these attacks and we are very glad that Police have arrested suspects in both cases,” says Alison Broad, spokesperson for the Women’s Self Defence Network Wāhine Toa (WSDN).

WSDN is a nationwide group of 25 specialist self defence teachers who teach up to 10,000 women and children each year. This network has been operating for 28 years.

Women’s Self Defence Network teaches practical, easy to learn ways of increasing personal safety in a variety of situations. Ms Broad says the one hour taster sessions will give women some practical ideas about what they can do to help keep themselves and others safe. The tasters will be held in: Takapuna, Te Atatu, Remuera and Papakura from 15-18th of February. These are free to attend, with an optional gold coin donation.

“We teach self defence strategies and techniques to women of all abilities and ages so they can feel more confident while they are out and about, walking or jogging, and also in their homes,” she says. The tasters will also include information about full one day Women’s Self Defence courses being held in the Auckland area.

Information about the one hour taster sessions and the one day Women’s Self Defence courses are available by visiting www.wsdn.org.nz or email info@wsdn.org.nz
