NZ Company Signs Swedish Councils to Use Next Generation Smart Cities App

ThunderMaps, a software company based in Sweden and New Zealand, has reached agreement with two Swedish councils to use its Smart City 2.0 application.

The councils (or kommuns as they are known in Sweden) are Ale Kommun and Sotenäs Kommun - which both sit in the Västra Götaland region of the country. The councils will receive Smart City 2.0 apps which enable geo-targeted two-way communication to & from citizens. ThunderMaps’ full stack solution has both web and mobile apps, and can be branded for each city.

The ThunderMaps Smart City 2.0 solution helps local councils engage citizens with a personalised communication stream. This stream contains information such as local news, events and alerts with open data feeds, important social media updates, citizen reports, and alerts from other authorities. Providing citizens with compelling, relevant and up-to-date information about their community.

The councils’ agreement also involves participation in the company’s European Commission ‘Horizon 2020’ innovation project. ThunderMaps AB (Sweden) was awarded a NZ$1.2m grant from the European Commission in August 2015 for its innovative solution.
