ThunderMaps, leading developer of mobile risk awareness apps, announced that its users can now make location-aware health and safety reports when offline.

The reliance on mobile phone reception is a significant hindrance to staff, particularly in hazardous industries with mobile workforces such as forestry and farming, as a lot of work can take place on the move and within remote locations.

With ThunderMaps’ latest update, reports can be made, storing the GPS location, hazard imagery, and saved offline to become accessible for other users and businesses when the user is back in reception.
Over the last three years, the New Zealand-founded software company has rapidly increased the capabilities of what their location-aware, mobile reporting tool can do to improve workplace health and safety.

While ThunderMaps has been developing cutting-edge phone technology here in New Zealand, the company has also been celebrating success overseas. After the launch of their European base in Sweden, ThunderMaps has recently been awarded an innovation grant from the European Commission, securing a total investment of NZ$1.25m.

Centering on the usability of the ThunderMaps app, the update has also released:

• Automatic notifications of any nearby risks to prepare users for potential hazards in the area.

The investment has been granted for ThunderMaps to enter the ‘smart cities’ market, funding their development of solutions in the mobile e-government area that improve communication between public authorities and citizens.
