Better mobile coverage for the far North

Better mobile coverage for the far North

Te Kao residents and visitors to the far North of New Zealand can now do more things in more places with their mobile devices, after a recent investment by Spark into the Government’s local Rural Broadband Initiative (RBI) site to expand the coverage in the Te Kao area.

More than $175,000 has been invested in the infrastructure needed to improve access to mobile services, extending 3G mobile coverage to Te Kao and surrounding areas.

General Manager of Networks for Spark, Colin Brown says the vastly improved mobile coverage will give locals better and faster access to mobile services, helping them to stay connected with family, friends and colleagues.

“We’re always looking to improve access to mobile coverage across regional New Zealand and we’re excited that Te Kao is now home to our northern most mobile site, connecting the far north to the rest of the country” said Mr Brown.

Mr Brown says that Te Kao will be one of many sites upgraded to 4G services at some point in the future, as part of Spark’s plan to rollout fast 4G mobile services to regional New Zealand. Customers will need to have a 4G-capable mobile device to connect to 4G.
