Chamber congratulates Helen Clark on UN nomination
Wellington Chamber of Commerce congratulates Helen Clark on being nominated for the role of United Nations Secretary-General.
“Helen Clark has done a great job for New Zealand in many roles, and I have no doubt she would make a fantastic Secretary-General”, says Chamber Chief Executive John Milford.
“Over her nine years as Prime Minister and during her time as head of the United Nations Development Programme she’s been known for her forthright views and as someone not afraid to make the hard decisions.
“She could be just the person the UN needs at this time of global uncertainty in several key regions.
“I’m sure her experience on the international stage over many years will stand her in good stead.
“She has always been a champion for New Zealand, including developing overseas trade and leading the charge to be the first country to sign a free trade deal with China.
“Prime Minister John Key, in nominating Ms Clark for the position, is also to be congratulated for again showing he is prepared to put political persuasions aside for the greater good.”
