Christchurch brothers buy Queenstown Park Boutique Hotel

Christchurch brothers buy Queenstown Park Boutique Hotel

Christchurch hoteliers, Michael, Ken and Thomas Patterson, have purchased the 19-room Queenstown Park Boutique Hotel for an undisclosed sum.

Part owners of the long-established Commodore Hotel in Christchurch, the Patterson brothers take ownership on April 27.

Michael Patterson said that for several years the family had aspirations of a second hotel and had taken much time and deliberation in selecting the Queenstown Park Boutique Hotel.

“We wanted a hotel that matched the Commodore for quality but as this is our first step into owning a second hotel, we wanted to buy a place that was manageable. With both hotels of a similar standard, we can also refer guests between the two.

“We believe the 50 business level rooms that we have at the Commodore in Christchurch attracts a similar clientele to the 19 rooms at The Queenstown Park Boutique Hotel. In many ways we see the Queenstown Park Boutique Hotel as an extension of the Commodore.

“The Queenstown Park Boutique Hotel is modern, an ideal size and great location. As long-standing hoteliers we also understand the importance of having quality staff and management. We look forward to working with all the existing staff,” he said.

The Pattersons said that the buoyant, long-term, tourism growth projections for New Zealand in general and Queenstown in particular was one key reason to purchase, while they also understood the need to diversify their geographic base.

“We saw what the 2011 earthquakes did to the Christchurch hotel sector. Fortunately we were one of the lucky ones and suffered little damage, but it made us conscious of the need to spread our base.

“We are really looking forward to bringing our unique brand of family hospitality to Queenstown,” he said.

The Patterson family has been involved in hospitality for 60 plus years.
