Techweek AKL 2016 attracts internationally acclaimed innovators

World leaders in technology, design and innovation will share their vast experience at the inaugural Techweek AKL 2016, being held in Auckland from 14-22 May.

Auckland’s technology expertise will also take centre stage during Techweek AKL 2016, with more than 40 events planned covering topics from virtual and augmented reality to the latest science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) trends, nanotech to biotech, and big data to gaming.

Universities, private businesses, start-up communities and industry associations are hosting events as part of Techweek AKL 2016, which is based around the theme ‘reshaping our world through design, innovation and technology’.

International experts in their fields are taking part in events during the week including leading Hollywood entrepreneur in visual effect and AR/VR, Barry Sandrew Ph.D; Singapore based Dr Megan Walters, International Director at JLL heading research for the Asia Pacific Capital Markets; and Garry Bolles, co-founder of eParachute - a San Francisco based start-up focused in helping job-hunters & career changers.

Patrick McVeigh, Auckland Tourism, Events & Economic Development’s (ATEED) General Manager Business, Innovation & Skills, says there’s strong interest in Techweek AKL 2016 which not only celebrates Auckland’s innovation and creativity but is an opportunity to learn and be inspired.

“Auckland has a diverse innovation offering which is both youthful and ingenious. Techweek AKL 2016 is an opportunity to showcase our knowledge in this sector, encourage Auckland’s ecosystem to work together, and to learn from both local and international experts,” he says.

The Techweek AKL 2016 programme features Ethereum – Disrupting the Global Financial System, Angel@mytable, Tech for Non Tech and a Smart Seeds Showcase event.

A Techweek AKL 2016 mobile site, which attendees will be given access to on arrival at events, will provide an interactive experience for audiences. Speakers can be asked questions in real-time, you can scan the room to find out who’s attending sessions, give feedback and win prizes.

Techweek AKL 2016 will coincide with the Tripartite Summit taking place in Auckland on 16-17 May with delegations attending from Los Angeles and Guangzhou, as well as the New Zealand Hi-Tech Awards.
