MyRepublic Ranks First on Netflix Speed Index

MyRepublic Ranks First on Netflix Speed Index across Asia Pacific Region
PRESS RELEASE

23 May 2016, Singapore
Following Netflix’s international expansion into 130 new countries, Internet Service Provider (ISP) MyRepublic has debuted on the Netflix Speed Index this month, ranking 1st in this measure of Netflix prime time performance for Singapore and Indonesia, as well as achieving the top score for the Asia Pacific region.

Unlike other ISP performance indexes, the Netflix Speed Index focuses on the rate of data Netflix consumers use. Each ISP receive on average when streaming Netflix video, with speeds around the 4Mbps mark ranked among the world’s best.

MyRepublic achieved 3.78Mbps on the Netflix Singapore Speed Index and 3.31Mbps for Indonesia. Given the increasing popularity of video on-demand services like Netflix, incumbent ISPs have had to ensure that their networks are ready to handle the exponentially increasing demand for bandwidth.

For MyRepublic, who launched 5 years ago to leverage the Next Generation of optical fibre national broadband infrastructures rolling out across the Asia Pacific, this growing demand for Over-the-Top (OTT) content is an area the ISP’s networks in Singapore, Indonesia and New Zealand have been especially purpose-built to handle.

“We think Netflix and OTT services are fantastic,” says MyRepublic CEO Malcolm Rodrigues, “We want to give people the best access to the best of the web. Today, about 50% our network traffic is video streaming and we encourage everyone to do more of it. There’s so much great content online.”

While today’s Netflix Speed Index currently ranks MyRepublic Singapore and Indonesia, the regional ISP is committed to bringing the same top quality video streaming experience to the ANZ region. MyRepublic is already in New Zealand and is due to launch in Australia later this year.

“This is a fantastic achievement by our Singapore and Indonesian teams. While Netflix has not yet started indexing MyRepublic in New Zealand, we are confident we’ll be able to top the index here too and further cement MyRepublic as the ISP of choice for streamers across the APAC region" - Vaughan Baker, Managing Director, MyRepublic NZ.
