Manufacturing data releases out of the U.K. and the U.S. were both stronger than expected but failed to boost either currency. The U.K. manufacturing PMI showed modest growth rising to 50.1 in May from 49.4 in April, economists had expected the index to inch up to a score of 49.6. The U.S. ISM manufacturing PMI increased to 51.3 in May from 50.8 in April, with economists expecting the index to slip to 50.5.

In the absence of any local data releases investors will look to tonight’s U.S. employment numbers and the ECB rate statement for future direction.
