Chamber congratulates sports winners

Chamber congratulates sports winners

The Wellington Chamber of Commerce congratulates the winners from last night’s Wellington Sports Awards.

Chief Executive John Milford said the capital was a force to be reckoned with in many sports, both nationally and internationally, due to the efforts of many people – players, coaches, and administrators – and they all deserve to be congratulated.

“But it’s not just the winners, because without the other participants our sport would not be as strong as it is.

“Sport is not good just for the image and the feel-good factor, but it contributes a great deal to our local economy by helping our commerce and businesses thrive.

“The test rugby match against Wales this weekend is a prime example of how valuable sport is to our city. It’s expected the match will contribute around $3 million to our economy, and much of that will come from out of town.

“Without a great sporting culture and great facilities to support that culture, we would miss out on business like that.

“Ma’a Nonu and all the other winners and finalists deserve our congratulations and our thanks.”
