Rollover prevention programme passes significant milestones

Rollover prevention programme passes significant milestones

The passing of a couple of significant milestones underlines the popularity of the Road Transport Forum’s Rollover Prevention Safer Journey’s Programme, says Chief Executive Ken Shirley.

“When we kicked this programme off we hoped to put 12-15 seminars together in 2016, however last week the 2016 schedule topped 50 seminars and requests from operators to hold more continue to come in.”

“The popularity and uptake of the programme has exceeded all expectations,” says Shirley.

“More than 20 seminars have already been held around the country and we have recorded over 1000 drivers, operators and freight loaders that have attended. By the end of the year we expect total attendance to be pushing 3,000 people.”

“The uptake of the programme amongst the forestry sector has been very strong. A number of seminars have been arranged specifically for log transporters and it reflects how seriously most within that sector take road safety.”

“Last week we scheduled the first seminar on behalf of a milk collection company, which is a really important part of the industry. I’d encourage all milk collectors and dairy product transporters to get in touch with us about holding a seminar as the programme specifically addresses the issue of dynamic loads and their effect on vehicle stability.”

“The whole industry is very grateful to NZTA’s Jeff Fleury for travelling around the country and presenting these outstanding seminars. Jeff is a highly regarded vehicle safety specialist and his experience of heavy vehicle accidents and their known causes is crucial to the success of the programme.”

The Rollover Prevention Safer Journeys Programme is a joint initiative between the Road Transport Forum and NZTA and the various seminars around the country are supported by National Road Carriers, Road Transport Association NZ and the NZ Trucking Association.
