The NZDUSD opens at 0.7253 (mid-rate) this morning.

The NZD rallied against the majority of its trading partners overnight with the JPY weakening 2.6% and the GBP unchanged versus the Kiwi.

There are fears rain and thunderstorms hammering the southeast of England could disrupt voter turnout in Britain’s referendum on staying in the EU. Polls close at 9am NZ time with the result known between midday and 3pm, although some say as late as 6pm

The Brexit vote has polarised the nation and is being closely watched by financial markets and currency traders globally.

Overnight the U.S Weekly Unemployment claims for the week ending 18th June printed at 259k , a decrease of 18k from the previous week’s unrevised level of 277k. This marks 68 consecutive weeks of initial claims below 300,000, the longest streak since 1973.

Global equity markets are broadly higher: Dow +0.95%, S&P 500 +1.00%, FTSE +1.23%, DAX +1.85%, CAC +1.96%, Nikkei +1.07%, Shanghai -0.47%.

Gold prices are down $2 currently trading $1,262 an ounce, WTI Crude Oil surged higher 2.0% from yesterday currently trading at $50.08 a barrel.
