Original Foods Baking Co takes home two gold awards at
Baking Industry Association of New Zealand’s Baker of the Year Awards.

Christchurch, New Zealand: One of New Zealand’s favourite creators of sweet treats, Original Foods Baking Co. (OFBC) has taken out two gold medals in the Baking Industry Association of New Zealand’s Bakery of the Year Awards last night (27.6.16). The prestigious awards are open to all commercial baking establishments in NZ.

OFBC’s Gluten Free Luscious Lemon Cake and Christmas themed Cool Yule Log took out top honours in their respective categories. Layers of light, gluten free, lemon Madeira cake alternating with tangy lemon curd and whipped buttercream won the judges hearts (and stomachs). The Yule Log featured a rich chocolate sponge roulade layered with fresh raspberry sauce and vanilla bean buttercream complete with raspberry crumbles. A rich chocolate ganache coating with lacquer glaze provided the finishing touch.

With OFBC now in its 25th year of operation and with a new, 2770 m2 purpose built production facility under construction, Managing Director Jane Mayell said that winning gold at the BIANZ awards was like winning one of “Willy Wonka’s golden tickets.”

“We love baking our delicious range of cakes, donuts, muffins and slices but to receive accolades such as this makes life just that little bit sweeter.

“As a proud, 100% New Zealand owned and operated family business we use fresh, local ingredients wherever possible including 100% New Zealand butter, cream, milk, cream cheese, fresh eggs, chocolate and freshly squeezed lemon juice. You can definitely taste the difference.

“Home style baking, creative flavours and the secret ingredient of our team’s dedication is a winning combination,” Jane said.

So will New Zealanders be able to get their hands on one of these delicious, award-winning cakes any time soon?

“We may look to add these two new cakes as a special range once our new factory is up and running at the end of the year,” Jane said.

Until then, sweet tooths will have to satisfy their cravings with one of the 90-plus other delicious products in the OFBC range.
