Job advertisements steady in July – MBIE
Jobs Online Report
The number of job advertisements was steady in July 2016, rising by 0.2 per cent, and by 12.7 per cent over the year, according to the latest Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) Jobs Online report.
Job advertisements rose in six of the eight industry groups over the month, with the hospitality and tourism industry experiencing the strongest rise (up 3.1 per cent).
The occupation groups with the largest monthly increases were sales (up 1.8 per cent) and labourers (up 1.6 per cent). Job advertisements rose in four out of five skill levels, with the biggest increase for skilled jobs (up 1.7 per cent) and semi-skilled jobs (up 1.5 per cent).
Job advertisements increased across nine out of ten regions in July. The biggest increase was in the Bay of Plenty (up 2.7 per cent).
MBIE’s Labour Market Trends Manager, David Paterson says, “There was steady growth in job advertisements – with rises in the hospitality and tourism industry offset by falls in the construction and engineering industry.”
