Prestigious software conference coming to Wellington

Prestigious software performance conference coming to Wellington

Wellington software performance company Wild Strait has been selected to host the 25th Workshop on Performance and Reliability (WOPR) conference in February 2017.

Wild Strait General Manager, Shane Ross, says this is the first time New Zealand will host the event, which normally takes place in North America.

“This is a small invite-only conference that has been running since 2003 and attracts the top international leaders in software performance. The conference already has interest from Goranka Bjedov, well-known Silicon Valley capacity engineer, and Mark Tomlinson, co-presenter of the popular performance testing podcast PerfBytes” says Ross.

“We’re delighted to have international performance specialists of this calibre coming to rub shoulders with local experts in Wellington.”

Previous companies to host WOPR include Google, Facebook, Microsoft, HP, Intuit, Salesforce, eBay, Dynatrace, BlazeMeter, Alcatel-Lucent and WebMD.

WOPR attendance is normally limited to 20-25 high-calibre participants. It runs as a series of peer workshops where software performance experts share their knowledge and experience.

“Each year the conference is oversubscribed and not everyone who applies is invited to attend. We plan to facilitate other events around the conference for those who do not receive an invite” says Ross.

Equinox IT and Wild Strait Director Richard Leeke, a Wellington-based performance testing veteran, is a regular speaker and content owner at the conference and in February will co-chair the event with Eric Proegler of software company SOASTA.

The conference will take place in Equinox IT and Wild Strait’s shared offices in the Wellington CBD.

Wild Strait was launched in Wellington last year by Equinox IT. Together the two companies have been delivering IT consulting services, including software performance services, to New Zealand organisations for over 21 years.
