MYOB first to launch innovative new way of connecting with Inland Revenue

From today, Inland Revenue will begin accepting “digital signatures”, saving businesses and their accountants a huge amount of administration time and further reducing the need for pen and paper in the workplace.

Leading cloud accounting software provider MYOB is the first accounting software provider to launch a digital signatures service to its customers in New Zealand, saying it will redefine how businesses interact with Inland Revenue.

In May this year, parliament changed the law to simplify the taxation system and make better use of digital technologies. The Inland Revenue guidelines issued today allow documents, such as tax returns, to be filed with an electronic signature rather than in writing, meaning there will be no need to print, sign and send forms to Inland Revenue.

“MYOB is focused on bringing innovative new services to market. We know small to medium sized businesses are always looking for ways to improve productivity in their operations.

“The new service means tax compliance documents can be quickly and securely transmitted to Inland Revenue without the need for paperwork and without the painful delays. Businesses can do it simply and easily, directly through our platform or via their accountant.”

MYOB has been working with Inland Revenue to find ways of simplifying a range of compliance and taxation processes. In addition to digital signatures, MYOB has worked with the government on the introduction of eGST, as well as changes to provisional taxation to allow it to be calculated and paid directly through a business’s accounting software package.

“We’re delighted with the digital signature functionality. It follows on from MYOB being first to launch eGST filling services in New Zealand and demonstrates that a local focus will continue to pay off for our customers.
