Harcourts Grenadier expands
17 October 2016
Harcourts Grenadier is embarking on an exciting new period of expansion, with the acquisition of the existing Harcourts office in Riccarton.
Business owners Rob McCormack and Andy Freeman have purchased 50% of the office formerly run by Harcourts Phoenix.
Rob McCormack says he seized upon the opportunity to expand.
“Christchurch is almost a closed shop, so when Riccarton became available for the first time in 25 years, there was no question we wanted to take on the office.”
It means Harcourts Grenadier now has 10 offices in the Christchurch area, including the iconic Grenadier House in the city centre, and employs a total of 280 staff.
Rob McCormack says Christchurch has just undergone a period of great growth in the real estate industry, and he expects the market to remain strong for the next two to three years.
“After the earthquakes we had thousands of homes destroyed, and insurance pay outs to thousands of people looking to purchase a new property. We had massive immigration into the city and huge demand. It made for an extremely active real estate market.
“Things have evened out a little, but given the forecasts for growth in our leisure and tourism industry, along with the rebuilding of the commercial heart of Christchurch, I’m expecting buoyancy in the market for the foreseeable future.”
The Harcourts Grenadier Riccarton office will be managed by Dougal Boyd, who is also part owner.
Harcourts Grenadier was founded in 1991, when Rob McCormack took up the very first Harcourts franchise, supporting residential, commercial, auction and business brokerage divisions.
Today Harcourts Grenadier is the second most successful franchise in the Harcourts group, which spans 10 countries and 830 offices globally.
Harcourts CEO Chris Kennedy says Rob McCormack and the Grenadier team are known for innovation and a firm commitment to putting people first, whether it is their own team or the clients who are so loyal to them.
“The team at Riccarton are now part of the great Grenadier franchise. They can expect nothing but excellence and energy to come.”
