Investment in Developing Passionate Experts Gives Noel Leeming a Best Workplaces Most Improved Win
A focus on developing internal engagement and teams of passionate experts has earned Noel Leeming the most improved award in the Enterprise category of the IBM Kenexa Best Workplaces Awards.
The IBM Kenexa Best Workplaces Survey is New Zealand’s largest and longest running annual workplace climate/employee engagement survey, and is the most definitive measure of 'employer of choice' and 'best employer' claims in the country.
This year Noel Leeming won the most improved award in the Enterprise category for its increasing team engagement.
Over 36,000 employees from 210 New Zealand organisations in the private and public sectors participated in the survey, including 29 new organisations this year. Fifty workplaces reached finalist status based on their results in the survey across five categories: Small, Small-Medium, Medium-Large, Large and Enterprise.
Noel Leeming CEO Tim Edwards said the company has put a good deal of focus on developing and engaging its 1600 team members through a range of initiatives including on-going communication of company strategy, progress against goals, comprehensive training and development options.
“A key goal for us is to drive a culture of passionate people and we define that as people who are confident, enthusiastic and likable,” says Mr Edwards.
“Since becoming part of The Warehouse Group in 2012 our business has gone from strength to strength and we’ve been able to grow aculture we’re extremely proud of.
“We are very aware that an engaged team is good for business. It increases team member retention, productivity and a shared vision,”says Mr Edwards.
In recent years team engagement improvements have occurred in areas such as learning and development with team members on averagecompleting around 36 e-training modules a year in addition to over 12 in-store training sessions on various products. In addition a comprehensive management and leadership programme ensures team members can be the best they can be and contributing to makingNoel Leeming a great place to work.
Mr Edwards also attributes the win to Noel Leeming’s focus on ensuring teams are well versed in the business values, goals and purpose.
“By sharing our direction and priorities throughout our business we can work together to provide the best for our customers and our business,” says Mr Edwards.
“We are very proud of our efforts to date and we have every intention of further continuing our people development and engagement practices,” says Mr Edwards.
