Winner of the Great New Zealand Xmas Mince Pie Competition announced

A popular bakery has taken the top spot in the 2016 Great New Zealand Christmas Mince Pie Competition. The famous Rangiora Bakery (also known as Artisan) has beaten out competitors from around the country to be crowned the makers of the best Christmas Fruit Mince pies in New Zealand.

There will be an BIANZ social event tomorrow (Tuesday 29th November) which the winners will be attending bringing with them some of their products. We would love to welcome you along to be a part of the event. If you would like to attend, please contact Kevin (027 485 9001).

BIANZ (Baking Industry Association of New Zealand) has been around 50 years next year - and every Christmas runs the Great NZ Christmas Mince Pie competition which is open to any bakery from around New Zealand. This year we also launched the Celebrity Christmas Mince Pie Charity Auction the proceeds of which are going to the Salvation Army.

The competition this year saw entries came in from Auckland to Dunedin. Entry is six of the same Christmas mince pies with a sweet pastry base, fruit mince filling and topping of the baker’s choice' allowing each competitor to demonstrate their own creative and innovative flair.

Judges were Mat Keys from Farmers Mill, Steve Adams from Rustic Café (in Lincoln), Dave Bradley - Bakery Tutor from ARA Institute of Canterbury, with the chief judge being Kevin Gilbert (Gilbert’s Fine Food in Dunedin and the current BIANZ President).

The winner receives a package that includes the much-coveted trophy + certificate presented by the President Kevin Gilbert at their bakery, an article in Slice magazine, New Zealand’s only bakery, cafe, catering magazine, and a media pack.
