Third electric vehicle fast charger in the Waikato

21 December 2016

Media Release - WEL Networks switches on third electric vehicle fast charger in the Waikato

Good news for electric vehicle drivers heading north – the WEL Networks fast charger is now live in Te Kauwhata.

The third of five WEL Networks fast chargers was switched on today and WEL Networks spokesman, Paul Blue (General Manager Asset Management) says the go-live is perfect timing for summer travellers.

"We're confident the fast charger will be well utilised. The Te Kauwhata site is conveniently situated on Wayside just off State Highway 1, with plenty of parking space. It takes about 15 minutes to fully charge the vehicle and best of all, it’s free to use.

“We’re sure it will help overcome any potential anxiety people may have about travelling between Auckland and Hamilton.”

WEL Networks has three electric vehicle fast chargers installed around the region; on Wayside Road in Te Kauwhata, at their Maui Street office in Hamilton, and in Raglan.

Two additional fast chargers will be launched in Hamilton city in the new year.
