Kiwi Property shoppers donate nearly $100,000

2 February 2017

It’s a wrap: Kiwi Property shoppers donate nearly $100,000 for charity over Christmas

Generous shoppers at Kiwi Property’s seven New Zealand shopping centres raised nearly $100,000 over Christmas through the company’s gold coin gift wrapping programme.

In exchange for a gold coin donation, volunteers from 16 local charities and Kiwi Property staff wrapped Christmas presents of all shapes and sizes to raise money for local community initiatives.

Heather Moore, General Manager of Volunteering Waikato said, “Christmas gift wrapping is Volunteering Waikato’s only fundraiser. The funds that we raise are used to provide our services in supporting 335 charities and non-profit organisations throughout the Waikato region”.

Kiwi Property’s GM Retail Portfolio, Karl Retief said, “For many years now our centres have worked with their local communities to create an opportunity for our shoppers to support local causes.

“It’s wonderful to see so many long-term volunteers return to the centre each year to give their time for their favoured charity. Donations from shoppers were up 20% this year from last year, with a total of $94,604 being raised; we thank our shoppers for their ongoing support.”

Those community initiatives that benefited from the funds raised include:

· Sylvia Park, Auckland raised money for the Red Cross Kaikoura Earthquake Appeal.

· LynnMall, Auckland worked with volunteers from their local Salvation Army who identified a number of youth-based community initiatives to be the recipient of funds.

· Centre Place and The Base in Hamilton partnered with Volunteer Waikato.

· The Plaza in Palmerston North has worked with Papaioea Rose Lions for many years. Funds raised go to a variety of local projects.

· North City, Porirua, has had a long-term relationship with Rotary Club of Porirua Sundown and is finalising a range to local activities that will benefit from funds raised.

· Northlands in Christchurch work closely with the Rotary Club of Papanui, which coordinates nine different local groups to volunteer their time in return for funds raised. This year, local groups included Papanui High School, St John Youth, O’Neill School of Irish Dance, Allenvale School, Aratupu Nursery and Preschool, Papanui High School PTA, Soroptimists, Kiwi Family Trust, and Belfast/Redwood Parish Youth Group.
