VTANZ against claims of association with tobacco companies

VTANZ speaks out against claims of association with tobacco companies

The Vaping Trade Association of New Zealand (VTANZ), today spoke out against assertions made by Tariana Turia recently. Joseph Rennie, VTANZ spokesman said:

"Tariana's assertion that this is a ploy by tobacco companies is completely unfounded. Not only do none of our members have any ties to the tobacco industry, we are not aware of any vape retailers in New Zealand that have such ties.

The majority, if not all of our members are former smokers who started out helping friends and family to quit smoking and expanded into business from there. Vape retail in New Zealand is a grass roots industry run by people who despise the tobacco industry, and fight them on a daily basis by helping people switch away from tobacco.

The same is true for the manufacturers of the products we well. Most are small independent companies with no ties to the tobacco industry. Some products, notably in the US, have been introduced by tobacco companies, but have failed to gain a foothold in New Zealand because local retailers refuse to carry their products

We invite Tariana to contact us or visit our member's stores and see for herself what the vaping industry in New Zealand really looks like"
