Chapman Tripp is pleased to announce the promotion of seven senior across our Auckland and Wellington offices.

“These promotions reflect the strength, talent and dedication to client service these lawyers display on a daily basis,” says Chapman Tripp hoa rangapū whakarae (chief executive partner) Nick Wells.

“We are delighted to announce their appointments, which will further strengthen our property, financial services, resource management, tax and finance practices.”

The appointments were effective 1 June.

Chapman Tripp’s new senior associates are:

Auckland

Daniel Kenyon, Property

Daniel specialises in all aspects of commercial property law, with a particular focus on large-scale residential and commercial subdivision and development work, retail development leasing and commercial office leasing.

He advises clients on the acquisition and development of large commercial property due diligence investigations of commercial property portfolios; design, build and lease contracts for substantial industrial and commercial projects; and the sale, purchase, management and leasing of substantial commercial portfolios.

Jenny Kenyon (nee Armstrong), Property

Jenny is in Chapman Tripp’s construction and major projects team and works closely with clients on a wide range of construction matters and projects across a variety of sectors, including infrastructure, commercial and residential. Jenny has also advised clients on alliance arrangements, consultancy agreements and has experience with NZS and FIDIC standard form construction contracts.

Prior to joining Chapman Tripp in February 2016, Jenny had an in-house role at Vector where she gained experience in property, construction and general commercial matters. Before her role at Vector, Jenny spent time in the property team at the UK firm Bond Dickinson and, prior to that, at another large New Zealand law firm.

Brendon Orr, Financial Services

Brendon specialises in financial services regulation, with expertise in managed funds, financial markets, banking, insurance and securities law.

Brendon has advised major banks and managed funds on compliance with their full range of regulatory obligations, including financial markets conduct, licensing and compliance, anti-money laundering, insurance licensing, financial advisor regulation and financial technology matters. Brendon also advises clients on contentious regulatory and internal investigations, and has extensive experience in interacting with domestic and international regulators.

Rebecca Tompkins, Resource Management

Rebecca advises public and commercial clients on the resource management and environmental aspects of large-scale infrastructure and energy projects, property development, commercial contracts and due diligence investigations.

Rebecca has extensive experience assisting clients with environmental and planning liability, obligations and compliance, including advising on legal strategies for the

management of risk in commercial transactions. Rebecca worked as a specialist planning and environmental lawyer with King and Wood Mallesons in Melbourne before re-joining Chapman Tripp in 2014.

Vanessa Hunter, Finance

Vanessa specialises in acting for lenders, borrowers and sponsors on a range of bilateral and syndicated financings, re-financings and restructurings.

Vanessa has recently returned to New Zealand after spending four years working in London for a leading multinational law firm, with a particular focus on leveraged and corporate finance and restructurings, on both a domestic and cross-border level.

Rupesh Patel, Tax

Rupesh advises on a wide range of New Zealand and international tax matters including mergers and acquisitions, private equity transactions, corporate restructuring and reorganisations, and managed funds.

He has recently returned from London where he worked in the corporate tax teams at Baker & McKenzie LLP and Sidley Austin LLP.

Wellington

Gwyn Thurlow, Finance

Gwyn is a banking and finance specialist, acting on corporate, leveraged acquisition, and project finance transactions as well as financing public-private partnerships (PPPs). He has a wide range of experience representing lenders, sponsors and borrowers.

Gwyn has particular expertise in complex, cross-border, syndicated, and secured transactions. Before joining Chapman Tripp in November 2016, Gwyn worked for six years at Gilbert + Tobin, Sydney, and prior to that started his career at KPMG’s tax team in Auckland.
