NZ 3Q Retail Sales Release

NZ 3Q Retail Sales Release

NZ Retail numbers for 3Q have just been released.

The data came in mixed:

Adjusted Retail Sales Volume (3Q) +0.2% (Consensus +0.1%)
Adjusted (Core) Retail Sales Value +0.1% (Consensus +0.25%)

Q2 figures were revised higher to 1.8% from 1.7%.

The total volume of retail sales rose 1.7%.

The food and beverage industry had the largest increase in the series, up 4.2%. The record increase reflects the influx of sporting fans and visitors for the World Masters Games and the Lions rugby tour held in New Zealand during the June quarter.

The NZD is slightly higher in immediate response.

NZD-GBP 0.5155 / 0.5175
NZD-JPY 76.40. / 76.70
