Spark Improves Coverage & Capacity to Coromandel Areas
In anticipation of an increase in data
use this summer, Spark has switched on 4G to two new sites
in the Coromandel, making it even easier for Kiwis to share
their summer adventures via Facebook, Instagram, and
Snapchat.
This year, Spark is anticipating huge growth in mobile data use across its network, but particularly in holiday hotspots all around New Zealand.
Spark expects this year to be even bigger, and has brought 4G to new mobile sites in Onemana and Whangamata Golf Club and added capacity to a site located at Given Avenue Kaka Street on the 700MHz spectrum to improve mobile services in the area.
Onemana is described as a coastal paradise and is a popular fishing, diving, snorkelling and surf spot.
In addition to this Spark will roll in a portable cell site also known as cell sites on wheels (Or COWS) to Whangamata South and Whitianga to ensure our customers continue to enjoy staying connected over the holidays. These portable cell sites provide additional 3G and 4G coverage and capacity.
Spark’s General Manager of Networks, Colin Brown, says the company is getting ready for more demand for data this summer as people share more of their adventures in the Coromandel.
“We want to help Kiwis have the best summer yet by keeping them connected in more places this festive season and giving them another excuse to stay away on holiday just that little bit longer.
“Our network upgrades will keep people connected to friends and family, giving them the ability to share all the amazing outdoor experiences the Coromandel has to offer – great fishing, stunning beaches, and so much more,” says Brown.
Nationwide upgrades:
To ensure customers right across the country can stay connected throughout the busy summer months Spark has invested a significant amount in upgrading its mobile network in time for Christmas to cater for the expected increase in demand for mobile data.
In the last three months, Spark has extended 4.5G to more than 30 locations, expanded capacity on more than 100 sites and built new sites in popular holiday locations such as Helena Bay, Kaeo, Mangawhai Heads, Pakiri Beach, Raglan, Waikawa and Te Anau.
Spark is also deploying transportable sites to popular locations across the country such as Whitianga, Mangawhai, Wanaka and Mahia Peninsula to improve capacity in the areas that see huge increases in visitors.
