Celebrate the past, act for the future

Auckland Anniversary – celebrate the past, act for the future.
With claims from sectors such as teaching, health and policing, that shortages of good people is due in part to the cost of living in Auckland it’s time we seriously considered these sectors trialling an “Auckland wage” to help overcome their talent shortages suggests Michael Barnett head of the Auckland Business Chamber.
The prospect of schools being unable to deliver talent to future employers because of teaching shortages seems ludicrous in a modern economy, similarly in health.
“For us to be failing to deliver health support for those in need is quite simply wrong.
“Frankly, I suggest an initiative like this in which employers and unions work together for the future workforce would be far more constructive than the current attempts to return to the past,” Barnett stated.
He noted that in cities like London with high cost of living, a cost of living adjustment has greatly helped overcome recruitment difficulties in areas such as teaching, nursing and policing.
