Entries open for NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards

Entries open for NZI Sustainable Business Network Awards 2018

Entries are now open for New Zealand’s longest-running and pre-eminent sustainability awards.

The Awards are now in their 16th year. They recognise businesses, local government, social enterprises and individuals for success in sustainability.

Entry to the awards is free. It is open to all organisations and individuals in New Zealand.

Rachel Brown ONZM is CEO of the Sustainable Business Network. She says: “This is the year to promote your sustainability achievements. We’re seeing clear signals from government that business must play a role in helping solve a host of social and environmental issues.

“We’re also seeing plunging levels of trust in all institutions, including business, which means now is the time to speak up about the good work your organisation is doing and prove your authenticity.

“These awards are one of the best ways of getting widespread recognition of your sustainability achievements. We expect a bigger response than ever before.”

The Awards provide the chance to compete in 11 categories of sustainable business. This year there is a new category – Millennials on a Mission – to recognise the role of young people in championing sustainability in their organisations.

Rachel says: “Young professionals tell us they are more productive and excited about work when their employers are engaged in sustainability. They are millennials on a mission, pushing for changes businesses aren’t necessarily ready for. So we’ve decided it’s time to create a new category recognising this ‘now’ crowd.”

The supreme award will be awarded to a business for outstanding performance in all aspects of sustainability. NZ Post was last year’s Supreme Winner.

Garry Taylor is Executive General Manager of NZI, the Principal Sponsor of the Awards.

He says: “We’ve been a foundation partner of the Sustainable Business Network for eleven years now and each year we’re excited to sponsor the Awards. For over a decade, we’ve watched the Sustainable Business Network make a significant contribution to our country by working with Kiwi businesses to help them reshape how profit is made.

“The Award winners continue to revolutionise the business landscape as we know it and we feel very privileged to play a part in making that happen. We look forward to seeing what the 2018 applicants are doing to make New Zealand a more sustainable nation.”

Entries close on 31 July 2018.
