Entries about to close for Pie Awards

Tasted a great pie lately?

There’s a lot of talk about pies and the need for a warm snack or meal as winter grips the nation. “How good was that pie eh?!”

Well you may not be aware but on June 28 entries close for this year’s NZ Bakels Supreme Pie Awards and if that pie was as delicious as you thought then you need to get that bakery to enter.

It’s simple; all they have to do is go online to http://pieawards.nz/ and enter. It’s free to do so and they could win some great prizes.

There are 11 main categories to enter including a special category, Café Boutique, for cafes, restaurants and caterers who don’t make their own pastry.

The 12th category, Commercial Wholesale, is reserved for the big guys that bake thousands of pies a week, like the ones you buy at a service station or dairy.

Once entered, bakers have until July 26 to perfect their entry for judging day when more than 5000 pies will line up before the judges.

The NZ Bakels Supreme Pie Awards is New Zealand’s largest food competition with an aim of championing the best bakers in the country.

The winners will be announced at the Awards dinner in Auckland on July 31.

So if you’ve tasted a great pie lately why not get the baker to enter?
