Latest Release of Unisys ClearPath® OS 2200

Added Security, Digital Access Highlight Latest Release of Unisys ClearPath® OS 2200 – Part of the World’s Most Secure Operating Environment

New features further enrich proven suite of integrated software solutions for the digital era

WELLINGTON, 19 July 2018 – Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS) today announced Release 18.0 of its ClearPath® OS 2200 operating environment for the company’s ClearPath Forward®Dorado systems.

The new release bolsters the already unsurpassed security of the ClearPath Forward operating environment1 (of which OS 2200 is a part) – the only one on the market from which data has never been forcibly extracted – while enhancing digital access to OS 2200. New features that facilitate data center transformation and application modernisation round out the new offering. Unisys designed, developed and qualified the more than 100 enhancements in Release 18.0 for streamlined operations.

The new release positions client organisations to adopt future Unisys OS 2200 Software Series product offerings and deploy their software environments in virtualised infrastructure, including transitioning them to execute in private, public and hybrid clouds.

“OS 2200 Release 18.0 both reaffirms and furthers Unisys’ commitment to the strategic ClearPath Forward family,” said Chuck Lefebvre, senior director, ClearPath Forward product management, Unisys. “We strive to make OS 2200 not just the premier engine for secure, high-intensity enterprise computing, but also the clear choice as the foundation for the emerging digital data center.”

Enhanced Security

Enhanced encryption and document security are highlights of OS 2200 Release 18.0. For example, addition of the Secure Sockets Layer/Transport Layer Security (SSL/TLS) protocol to the system’s Communications Interface for Transaction Applications (CITA) enables users to encrypt network data, use message digests to protect messages from modification and authenticate their identities using PKI (Public Key Infrastructure) certificates. An upgraded release of Unisys Enterprise Output Manager (EOM) for enterprise-wide document distribution and management enables digital signing of PDF documents to protect both the contents and identity of their creator and approver. The new EOM release also enables encrypted transfer of documents over public networks.

Digital Delivery

As the first step in an initiative to transform packaging and distribution of all ClearPath software products, Unisys is shifting delivery of OS 2200 Release 18.0 from physical media to digital downloads as the medium for clients to access all components of their newly purchased software environment. All downloads will be available through the Unisys Download Center (UDC), featuring a new, easier-to-use interface. The center will also leverage an industry-standard Content Delivery Network to provide fast, reliable downloads.

Data Center Transformation

Major enhancements for enterprise-wide data processing and management in OS 2200 Release 18.0 include new capabilities for Apex, the web application that enables streamlined management of the OS 2200 environment. Among those are reporting on file access, making it easier to detect suspicious activity and spot inadequate security policies. In addition, Release 18.0 includes enhancements to Operations Sentinel, which provides single-point remote management for an organisation’s entire IT infrastructure. Those include centralised monitoring of the entire ClearPath Dorado environment through a single window and failure alerts to quickly spot issues affecting Linux and Unix resources within the heterogeneous infrastructure.

Application Modernisation

OS 2200 Release 18.0 enables organisations to make better use of readily available, contemporary developer skills to modernise strategic applications. The release includes the latest version of ClearPath Forward ePortal, which makes it easier for developers to Web-enable and modernise applications for mobile use. The release also includes the software-based ClearPath Forward ePortal Software Edition (SE) for deployment on industry-standard virtualisation platforms, including Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware ESX.

ClearPath Forward Services

To amplify their return on IT investment, users of OS 2200 Release 18.0 can benefit from Unisys’ expansive, integrated suite of ClearPath Forward Services, including Application Enrichment, Product Implementation and Managed Services.
