Avis Mobile App Gears Kiwis up for the Future

Avis Mobile App Gears Kiwis up for the Future

Avis New Zealand’s new mobile app will mean customers won’t have to queue or spend time filling out paperwork – and in the future they won’t need a key to unlock their rental car.

The new app is one of many mobility innovations Avis is undertaking in New Zealand and around the world, including car-sharing and fully connected vehicles.

Ian Jones, Commercial Director, Pacific, says the way we travel in New Zealand is changing rapidly, and the new Avis mobile app signals a major shift in how travellers use rental cars.

“We are working to achieve our global objective of a connected fleet by the end of 2020 and New Zealand is a major part of that move. We’re now moving towards a time when you will no longer need a key to access our cars – just a mobile phone,” he says.

Avis New Zealand’s signature series, featuring BMW X5s, are already fully connected vehicles and use smart technology to help meet the changing needs of travellers and business customers.

“Mobile technology is the gateway to mobility in the future, which is why we’re investing and innovating in this space. In New Zealand, the new Avis mobile app is the start of these advancements, and customers will benefit most.”

The Avis mobile app allows customers to manage the entire car rental process – from start to finish – through their smartphone, including:
• A seamless check-in process and return of the vehicle with the tap of the app
• The ability to arrange an early pick-up or change the pick-up or drop-off location of their vehicle
• The location of the nearest petrol stations and car park options during travel
• The ability to change the return location and extend rental period

“Technology enables us to reduce the amount of paper work and queues that come with picking up and dropping off a rental car,” says Jones. “It’s all about streamlining the customer experience, making it easier, quicker and more efficient to get into your vehicle and then get to where you’re going.”

The app was designed in consultation with Avis customers to ensure it solved concerns facing travellers such as queues, long wait times and paper work.

The Avis mobile app is available for vehicle bookings at Auckland Airport, Wellington Airport, Christchurch Airport, and Napier Airport with more locations to follow. The New Zealand launch is part of a successful global roll out which has already seen 400,000 unique customers spanning Europe, North America and Australia.

For travellers crossing the ditch, the mobile app is also available at 16 of Avis’ Australian locations including; Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Cairns, Townsville, Launceston, Hobart, Newcastle, Darwin, Canberra, Coolangatta, Perth, Mackay, Sunshine Coast and Rockhampton.

The Avis mobile app is available for download on iOS and Android platforms. For more information or to sign up for FREE visit www.avis.co.nz.
