Unions congratulate FIRST members on Bunnings win

Unions congratulate FIRST members on Bunnings win

--

Council of Trade Unions Secretary Sam Huggard said today that unions were proud of FIRST members for standing together for better pay as part of their ‘Worth It’ campaign. The latest campaign success is a better offer to members working at Bunnings of $20.55 an hour, a lift in base rates of $2 per hour for these members.

"This latest win by FIRST members is an example of what can be achieved by people in unions campaigning for fair pay and decent lives. The ‘Worth It’ campaign is lifting rates in the retail sector to allow union members more time with their families, and adequate pay to cover their cost of living- a fairer rate than the minimum wage."

"The big red ribbon of FIRST’s ‘Worth It’ campaign is a symbol of solidarity and a better business model - one that treats working people with dignity. No matter what you do, everyone is worth a wage that allows you to live healthily and participate in society. It’s the future for business in New Zealand, and I’m proud that it’s union members campaigning to usher it in."
