Auckland woman wins Emerging Director Award

Ted van Arkel presents Nagaja Sanatkumar with her award

Auckland digital technology expert Nagaja Sanatkumar of Remuera has been announced as the IoD Auckland Branch Emerging Director.

Nagaja Sanatkumar, a digital technology executive is currently Icebreaker’s General Manager of Global eCommerce.

Each year the Institute of Director branches make Emerging Director Awards to people who show leadership, integrity and enterprise in their careers.

The IoD Auckland Branch is the biggest branch of the Institute of Directors of New Zealand with more than 3000 members.

In recognising Nagaja for this prestigious award, Auckland judges Ted van Arkel, Cecilia Tarrant and Bindi Norwell said they were “impressed with Nagaja’s international experience and her commitment to explore, learn and participate in the fast-moving world of the digital commercial sector. This, along with her passion for excellence, is a credit to her,” the judges said.

“Nagaja is on a journey of being able to add real expertise value in boardroom discussions, and recognises the need for good governance at board level. We are sure that Nagaja will become a highly sought-after director in the very near future,” the judges said.

Before coming to New Zealand in 2015, Nagaja lived in the US and held senior leadership roles at Amazon and Expedia.

Her expertise spans industries such as retail, travel, financial services and management consulting. With a lens that views new challenges as opportunities for disruption, her passion is to harness the power of digital technology for greater social and environmental good, and help businesses, governments and non-profit organisations thrive in an ever-changing digital landscape.

She enjoys motivating and inspiring people to continuously raise their standards for collaboration, execution and learning.

Nagaja’s prize includes $2000 to put towards IoD professional development, mentoring from an experienced director and complimentary IoD membership for a year.

Institute of Directors Auckland Branch committee member and one of the judges Ted van Arkel presented the Award to Nagaja Sanatkumar.
