Tech design company Rush Digital was celebrated at the
Best Design Awards on the weekend, winning the User
Experience Purple Pin award for their work in collaboration
with ASB and the Starship Foundation.
To recognise 25 years of partnership with the Starship Foundation, ASB and its customers raised over $1 million last year to fund a new emergency department waiting and assessment area for the children’s hospital.
Rush Digital’s design expertise resulted in a new interactive area where waiting young patients and their families can relax in ‘The Magic Forest’, or help prepare them for the treatment by engaging with the ‘Starship Animal Check-ups’ interactive wall before they are admitted.
Finalists in the category were judged on how well their design functioned for users. In announcing the award the judges commented, “The team delivered a delightful experience that combined interactive technology and immersive design which had the user at the centre from start to finish.”
ASB head of community and sponsorship Mark Graham says the award is a celebration for ASB, Starship and Rush Digital.
“ASB would like to congratulate Rush Digital on being named one of the supreme winners at this year’s Best Design Awards organised by the Designers Institute of New Zealand.
“As the major sponsor of the renovation, ASB was thrilled the judges recognised the vision for the project, which was to create an interactive area focused on functionality providing comfort not only to the young patients and their families, but having the added bonus of helping out the really busy Starship staff.
“The Rush-designed renovation of Starship children’s ED assessment and waiting area really has transformed the space into a fun and relaxing place for families, at what is often a stressful time. We’re incredibly grateful to our customers and the ASB team who got behind the idea and helped us raise over $1 million to make the upgrade a reality,” Graham says.
The sold-out awards were held at the Viaduct Events Centre on Saturday.
