Turangi’s Century 21 recommits to rescue helicopter

Upon hearing the news that Greenlea Rescue Helicopter is staying in the district, Century 21 Premier (Turangi) has recommitted itself to supporting the lifesaving service.

Local Century 21 franchise owner, Wai Johnson has announced that the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter will be the single recipient of their 2019 fundraising efforts.

This year the Turangi-based real estate business publicly joined others in the campaign to retain the helicopter rescue service for the Taupo-Central Plateau area, including pledging financial support if the service was to be retained.

“Wai and her team certainly know how to raise money and make a difference. They’re a great commercial citizen in the Turangi local community, and here they are again putting their money where their mouth is,” says Ryan Mitchell, National Manager of Century 21 New Zealand.

Fundraising efforts by Century 21 Premier (Turangi) in 2018 saw it raise over $15,000 with its annual charity auction and dinner for St John Youth. In 2017 Century 21 Premier raised much needed funds for the local Coastguard.

“I’ve been blown away by the generosity of our local community, so last month we hosted a Spring Fling as a big thank you. The Turangi Senior Citizens Hall event saw many local community and business leaders attend as well as the Mayor of Taupo David Trewavas, Century 21’s National Manager, and many loyal clients. It was a great night with a local band and plenty of delicious food.”

For Wai Johnson the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter has a very personal connection. The helicopter rescued her son and his best friend when they capsized on the lake. She says if it had it not been for their fast action in locating the boys in the dark, both would have died.

Century 21 Premier will host its charity auction and dinner for the Greenlea Rescue Helicopter in the New Year, with the date to be announced soon.
