Nurserywoman supreme winner NZI Rural Women 2018

NZPPI congratulates member Marie Taylor of Plant Hawke’s Bay as Supreme Winner of the NZI Rural Women Business Awards.
Chief Executive Matthew Dolan says Marie Taylor is a dedicated and highly intelligent nurserywoman who brings everything she has to her work, to the industry and the community.
“Marie is constantly thinking outside the square and into the future for the industry and for the community. Indeed, her wisdom and visionary approach is an asset to our sector,” Matthew Dolan said.
“She is an optimistic problem solver and will collaborate and share her ideas and approach to get over hurdles.
“The integrity and mana she brings to the native tree nurseries with her eco-sourcing commitment is inspiring and is where the future lies for success in this native tree nursery sector,” Matthew Dolan said.
Marie Taylor says, "Being part of the awards enabled me to tell my native plant story to a national audience. It was also great to meet other inspiring rural women and to hear their stories of business success. I am still stunned at my win.”
Marie has a horticultural science degree from Lincoln University and worked for the QEII National Trust from 1992-2007, first in Nelson, and then for 13 years in Hawke’s Bay. This gave her a good working knowledge of the distribution of native species within Hawke’s Bay, and an understanding of how they fit into the landscape.
The plant producer’s sector is having significant success this year with Devin Westley second in the Young Horticulturalist Awards and last year’s winner Shanna Hickling from Riversun Nursery, appointed to the Primary Sector Council.
