Fly into 2019 with a Boxing Day Bargain

Although the year is drawing to an end, there’s still one day savvy travelers need to mark in their calendars if they want to score some really cheap travel deals - Boxing Day.

According to Webjet, Australia and New Zealand’s leading online travel agency, Kiwis can get an extra gift from Santa, with Boxing Day predicted to be one of the best days for scoring deals on flights, tours, and packages.

David Galt, Country Manager at Webjet, said that while there are no guarantees, locals need to be prepared to increase their chances of nabbing a bargain.

Holiday makers who booked on Boxing Day last year saved as much as a third* (33%) on the average price of their trip, taking advantage of big savings on popular routes such as Bali and beyond. This year’s sale will extend even further with more worldwide destinations included. For those after even bigger deals, Webjet’s global Holiday Packages will also be on sale, so bundle your flight and hotel in one booking to save even more.

“With these significant reductions in ticket prices, seats won’t last long, so soon-to-be travelers need to be up bright and early to snag a bargain.”

With limited cheap fares available, Webjet’s team of experts have put together tips to hunting down a holiday.

1. Be flexible - Plan your trip around sale-specific dates and destinations. You may be able to find a hidden bargain by travelling just a day or two earlier or later than planned or discover a new destination that you hadn’t previously considered. 2. Make the most of the time zone - Boxing Day arrives in New Zealand ahead of Australia, the UK and USA, so by waking up early you could nab the very best sale fares, including the Christmas flight deals from European and American airlines, before the rest of the world has woken up from their Christmas Day food comas.

3. Embrace the routes less travelled
- Try playing around with routes to find the cheapest deal – flying to Europe? Try looking at alternative destinations such as Barcelona, Amsterdam or Rome over Paris or London. There are also lots of cheap deals throughout Asia, so consider flying to Jakarta or Manilla over Singapore or Bangkok.

4. Time to upgrade - Don’t forget, you can also find Premium Economy or Business Class tickets at a much lower price during these sales - definitely worth considering for long haul flights, when a good sleep means you can hit the ground running to make the most of your holiday time. Or simply to treat yourself to a luxury flight experience for a fraction of the cost… flatbed seats, need we say more?
