Resido Awarded Impressive 9-Star Homestar Rating By NZGBC

Kiwi Property is thrilled to announce that Resido, New Zealand’s largest build-to-rent community, has achieved an outstanding 9-star Homestar Built rating from the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC). Surpassing the project’s original 8-star target, this achievement underscores our commitment to creating sustainable, high-quality spaces for New Zealanders to live, work, shop, and play.

Officially opened by Prime Minister Christopher Luxon in June last year, Resido is redefining the rental experience with 295 thoughtfully designed modern apartments, exceptional on-site amenities, and a prime location adjacent to Sylvia Park. Every aspect of Resido’s design and construction was carefully planned to ensure outstanding outcomes for both the building and its residents. The 9-star Homestar rating solidifies Resido’s status as a sustainable, healthy place to call home.

"It’s fantastic to have this recognition of the work that’s gone into reducing our building impact and delivering a healthy, efficient space for our residents. We are proud to have this independent verification showing the high quality of sustainability initiatives possible in large-scale residential developments," says Greg Tolley, Head of Development at Kiwi Property.

Sustainability was at the forefront throughout Resido’s construction, with 92% of construction waste by weight recycled or reused. Lead contractor Naylor Love also conducted a groundbreaking trial of GIB plasterboard use, achieving 100% diversion from landfill – setting a new benchmark for reducing industry waste and improving best practices.

Andrew Eagles, NZGBC Chief Executive, says, “Resido's high Homestar rating is a significant achievement and reflects the team’s exceptional commitment to sustainability and innovation. Importantly, the design underwent a full life cycle assessment to gauge and reduce emissions, and comprehensive energy modelling will help reduce winter heating demand, and overheating risk during summer months.”
