Cable Car will not be sold
Wellington Alive and Labour City Councillors have decided not to pursue the proposed sale of the Wellington Cable Car but want the well-loved Wellington icon's operators to think outside the square.
The proposed sale raises complex Town Belt, Reserve Land and other issues that would make any deal unworkable.
"The Cable Car will not be sold - we've put the idea in the 'too hard' basket," says Mayor Mark Blumsky.
"But proposing the sale has been an interesting exercise. We've had good offers from several operators all of who had amazing ideas about how to improve the service and add value to the Cable Car.
"The Cable Car
is a great asset to Wellington but I think it could be even
better. We've now seen some new ideas and I'm going to ask
the Wellington Cable Car Company to come up with some
innovative ways to add even further value to the
service."
