Enjoy Viewfinder
A new art project has arrived in Wellington. viewfinder, the first venture of the Enjoy project, opens its doors at 5.30 p.m. on Tuesday 4 July 2000.
An intiative by two artists, Ciaran Begley and Ros Cameron, the Enjoy project aims to provide venues for experimental and challenging visual arts by emerging artists.
The Enjoy project is motivated by a concern that Wellington lacks a range of spaces dedicated to the exhibition of new art independently of a focus on selling art works. Enjoy will show works in a range of contemporary media which often do not easily translate into saleable form, such as installation art, digital art, and video art, by artists who are emerging rather than established.
Enjoy intends to run a succession of projects, each lasting for around a month, each in a different space in Wellington. Each project will be based around a unifying theme, and will involve a range of artists responding to that theme.
Enjoy begins its existence through viewfinder, a series of five exhibitions in a gallery space on Cuba Street. Each exhibition is by a different artist, with each artist responding to a central theme - the five windows in the gallery space and the issues they raise about the architectural space and the views from that space into the community at large.
Each exhibition will begin with a public opening on a Tuesday evening, at 5.30pm on July 4, 11, 18, 25 and August 1. Exhibitions will run Wednesday - Sunday, with the gallery open 10am-5pm. The gallery space is located at 174 Cuba St (1st floor), Wellington.
