The Flux of Images Film-maker Wim Wenders

Wim Wenders Documentary Screens On Triangle TV

8pm Monday 2 October

Wim Wenders has 30 years of making films behind him. He has continually questioned the medium he works with and which he takes as a theme in his films. How are stories told in images and how is content transformed by new technological possibilities?

Wenders' film Wings of Desire, made in black and white on celluloid, did more than anything else to create the image of Berlin outside Germany. Since that triumph, Wim Wenders has been considered Germany's foremost contemporary film director.

Wim Wenders' abiding concern is to roll back the borders of story-telling in images, and see how stories change according to the medium of the telling - celluloid, video or high definition. In The Million Dollar Hotel he deploys subtle, sparing digital effects to achieve considerable intensity on screen. For his documentary Buena Vista Social Club he used a digital camera for the filming and subsequently reworked the images by computer. That film, a homage to Cuban music, was awarded this year's German Film Prize.

This half-hour documentary, The Flux of Images will screen on Triangle Television at 8pm on Monday 2 October.
