2001 Warriors Open Home
Auckland, New Zealand - 18 January, 2001 - Now that we know who the Vodafone Warriors are, everyone is asking who is going to be the 2001 Captain? And what will the new strip look like? All will be revealed during an Open Day family event at Ericsson Stadium on February 10 between 11am-2pm.
Fans will get the chance to participate in a number of activities along side the team including 'pass the ball, 'tackle-bag' and kicking competitions, as well as footy basketball. They'll also be able to check out where all of game day's behind the scenes action takes place when they are invited to tour the changing rooms and media tower.
Warriors general manager, Mick Watson, says the day is shaping up to be a real crowd pleaser. "A few 'oversized' surprises are planned which we think the kids will enjoy. Warriors' sponsors will be present to showcase their support for the squad too. Expect to see the Lion Red Hot Rod and the Vodafone V8 Racers, along with a live band. Mostly though we want to demonstrate the club's new attitude and new look."
The Open Day grand finale will include the unveiling of the Warriors' new strip and the 2001 Captain announcement, as well a formal acknowledge of their fans' support. All Open Day guests will be asked to pose along with the squad, management and staff for the ultimate 'team' photo.
Watson says the Open Day is all about giving back to the team's supporters. "We know the Warrior's success depends on our grass roots fans. The aim of the Open Day is to genuinely thank people for their loyalty, not just pay lip service."
"I've been overwhelmed with the warm wishes we've received lately and I'd like to express my gratitude in person. I believe the activities we've got lined up will provide for a great family event. The day's formalities are going to create a lot of excitement - the strip launch and Captain announcement will be the ideal conclusion to what we hope will be a day of celebration."
The Warriors' first NRL game for 2001 will kick off on February 18 at Ericsson Stadium.
