GOLD DISC FOR CONCERT FM AND THE NZSO
Radio New Zealand Chief Executive, Sharon Crosbie and Ian Fraser, Chief Executive of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra were both presented with a Gold Disc of Concert FM's Beauty Spot CD by Universal Records today (Thursday 19 April).
The CD, a first collaborative production of a commercial CD between Concert FM and the NZSO reached gold disc status one month after it was released just before Christmas and since then sales have continued to grow.
Sharon Crosbie said it was a thrill to hold Concert FM's first gold CD.
"I know how much the idea has meant to all of us - and to see it do so well just underscores how important both the NZSO and Concert FM are to all New Zealand music lovers.
"I hope this will be the first of many!"
NZSO Chief Executive, Ian Fraser said, " It's great so many New Zealanders want the NZSO experience on disc. We are delighted that there is such widespread support for this attractive and familiar recording. Public appreciation of classical music is obviously increasing."
The Beauty Spot CD is 72 minutes of exquisite music put together by Universal in collaboration with Concert FM and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and includes such tracks as Gareth Farr's Waipoua, Ravel's Pavane for a Dead Princess, The Swan of Tuonela by Sibelius, Barber's Adagio and Mascagni's Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana.
Concert FM's Production Manager Kate Mead thanked everyone who bought a copy of Beauty Spot.
"As a New Zealander for four years, I believe life in this beautiful country is enhanced by the extraordinary musicians who make up the ranks of the NZSO.
"We at Concert FM are proud to bring this beautiful music to New Zealanders. Remember that when you next play Beauty Spot."
Beauty Spot can be heard after the news every morning at eight on Concert FM, a network funded publicly through New Zealand on Air.
