Tchaikovsky In The Wellington Town Hall!

The NZSO will host the second concert of the successful 'Composer Focus' series, on 20 July, with three romantic Tchaikovsky favourites in the Wellington Town Hall.

Nicholas Braithwaite, a frequent guest conductor here, will conduct the romantic Swan Lake Suite, the lively Serenade for Strings and the famous big First Piano Concerto with soloist Tamara Cislowska, who made a big impression here during the 90s. Braithwaite has also been a frequent guest conductor for major orchestras in the UK and Europe both in concert and on record, and has toured Japan and Korea with the London Philharmonic Orchestra as Associate Conductor to the late Georg Solti.

Tamara Anna Cislowska is one of the most acclaimed and awarded Australian pianists of her generation. In 1991, at 14, she was the youngest pianist to win Australia's most prestigious classical music award, the ABC Young Performer of the Year. The last concert of this series, on 12 October, will see the NZSO, like many leading orchestras worldwide, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the death of Giuseppe Verdi's with his great, operatic Requiem. This will feature NZSO Principal Guest Conductor, Matthias Bamert, and New Zealand singers, Dame Malvina Major, Zan McKendree-Wright, Patrick Power and Rodney Macann. These concerts are sponsored by Bell Gully and are being sold as a subscription or by single ticket sales.
