Maori Youth Performances Set To Impress

NZ On Air has announced funding for two shows that will showcase the creative ability of Rangatahi (Maori Youth).

Ahurea 2001 covers the National Secondary Schools’ Kapa Haka Competition to be held at Auckland’s Aotea Centre in August. This two-day event involves more than 600 teenagers from 15 schools and will attract an anticipated audience of around 10,000 people.

Nga Manu Korero covers the National Nga Manu Korero Speech Competition being held in Ngaruawahia in September. The competition includes junior and senior divisions for both English and Maori language.

“NZ On Air is pleased to be able to support the broadcasting of these two programmes. By profiling the young people on Ahurea 2001 and Nga Manu Korero we showcase their incredible talent and creative ability,” said NZ On Air chief executive, Jo Tyndall.

“Both competitions are positive and inspiring and feature students at their best,” she said.

NZ On Air has allocated $69,860 to Front of the Box Productions for two one-hour programmes of Ahurea 2001 and $74,185 to the same company for four 30 minute programmes of Nga Manu Korero 2001.
