Clarinet Magic at Nathan Homestead
Treat yourself to a very special concert of classical clarinet on September the 2nd, 2.00 p.m., at the Nathan Homestead.
The free concert organised by Council’s arts staff, features Murray Khouri, accompanied on piano by Rosemary Barnes. This is another in the Nathan Homestead concert series, following the highly successful cello recital by Julie Platt in July, and the Bohemia and Classics concert in August.
Khouri and Barnes will perform modern French, Polish and British music.
Khouri has lived and worked overseas for 30 years, now teaches clarinet and chamber music at Waikato and Auckland Universities, and performs recitals and chamber music is Australia and New Zealand. While in Britain, he played with the London Philharmonic Orchestras under many distinguished conductors. He is a regular broadcaster on Concert FM, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and the BBC.
Rosemary Barnes is a well-known adjudicator of voice and piano. She studied piano with Franz Reizenstein at the Royal Academy of Music, and for 25 years was one of London’s busiest accompanists and vocal coaches. She has played recitals throughout the UK, on BBC radio and television, and assisted in opera recordings and film soundtrack.
Council’s Arts Programme/Events Co-ordinator at Nathan Homestead, Pat Kadarmia, says “People attending this concert will be treated to a wonderful afternoon of clarinet and piano playing at its best. We’re pleased to be able to continue providing our community with free concerts of this calibre. Upcoming concerts include accomplished harpist, Yi Jin, and friends on piano, guitar and vocals, and La Corsa, with soprano Fiona Ferens, oboist Stanley Jackson and pianist Kay Shacklock.”
